This includes but is not limited to educating the client on how to use their adaptive equipment to enhance, maintain, and develop their capabilities. Training and support may consist of assisting the individual in gathering information about adaptive equipment as well as assisting with set-up and maintenance for their adaptive equipment. This includes supporting the client with TTY phones, Communication Boards, Computers, and Video Conferencing.
Community Resources is the area of service in which individuals may receive support and guidance to seek generic services located within their community. The individual is trained and/or assisted with location of services, the referral process, and attainment of services they qualify for under this service area. Community Resources training would be a beneficial service area for individuals interested in utilizing more resources or services in the community to live more independently.
Educational Assistance provides assistance to individuals who are interested in or are enrolled in an academic course that will benefit his/her success in living independently and obtaining a career. This may include support in scheduling appointments with academic counselors or professors, connecting with the disabled student services office, or filling out the proper documentation to enroll in school. The level of support or training is contingent upon the individual’s age, career goals, and respective Esperanza program.
Financial Management training focuses on various ways to budget an individual’s money to ensure financial stability. Unique to Esperanza Services, we offer a Double Signature account program which safeguards against unnecessary spending and the consequences should they choose to do so. The Double Signature is in place until the individual (or his/her family) feel ready to appropriately manage their finances independently. With the Double Signature account, the individual or agency cannot withdraw money without each other’s signature.
The Food Consumption and Toileting service area assists individuals who have difficulties feeding and toileting independently. This includes but is not limited to assisting the individual with properly using a napkin, eating, maintaining cleanliness during feeding and drinking, using the restroom and toileting, and washing his/her hands. The food consumption and toileting service area is beneficial for those whose disability greatly impairs their ability to perform these tasks without the assistance of others.
The Functional Communication service area assists individuals in effectively understanding and relaying information to others in the community. This specific service area may support individuals in reading and writing their personal information as it pertains to their independent living needs. Functional Communication training can also support individuals in recognizing important signs in the community they may encounter on a daily basis.
The Health Management service area informs individuals on how to take control and ownership of their health. This area promotes the individual’s physical well-being and helps them recognize concepts and conditions that are important to monitor. Health Management includes education and support in, medical, mental, dental, nutritional, sexual, medication compliance, exercise, and education in healthy lifestyle choices.
The Home Maintenance service area assists individuals in developing the necessary skills to maintain a clean and safe home environment. Training in this area targets basic housekeeping skills, guidance in maintaining a residence, disposing of garbage, appropriate cleaning methods, and the importance of pest control. The Home Maintenance service area will vary on the individual needs of the consumer and can be modified to the type of housing agreement.
The Laundry service area provides training and assistance in developing the necessary skills to perform basic laundry skills. Support may include but is not be limited to sorting clothing by colors, selecting the proper size washer and dryer, determining the proper amount of change to run a machine, or properly putting away clothing.
Mobility training focuses on various ways individuals can navigate the community in an independent manner. Depending on the needs of the individual, the mobility service area may provide instruction or education on the appropriate methods of transportation such as riding a bicycle, taxi, bus, or train if necessary. Mobility assistance also promotes using safety precaution when utilizing various methods of transportation in the community.
Our Money Management service area assists individuals with managing their day to day expenses. As many individuals are dependent upon Social Security or other financial benefits, it is of utmost importance that their finances be properly managed. Through consistent training and education, Esperanza Services can assist individuals in properly budgeting their money, handling their money, and obtaining bank accounts for the day to day necessities.
The Parent Education service area provides a variety of supports to expecting, new, or long-term parents. Instruction and support centers around the duties and responsibilities of a parent and on the proper implementation of parenting skills to meet a child’s needs. Education on health, safety, appropriate interactions, and pre and post-natal care will also be included in the Parent Education services. The ultimate goal of the Parent Education service area is to equip parents with the necessary skills to create a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment for their children.
All service areas listed above may include specific goals personal to the individual. Many individuals have specific skills they would like training, education, or support in. Some personal goals may include but are not be limited to obtaining a driver’s license, applying for US citizenship, or learning to swim. The Personal Hygiene and Grooming service area provides instruction and support in an individual’s grooming, attire/clothing, and dental hygiene. Training and support centers on assisting the individual with developing the skills necessary to properly groom and care for themselves through the use of basic self-care techniques. Depending on the needs of the individual, we can also provide assistance and instruction on the proper use and acquisition of prosthetic devices.
Training and support in this area assists individuals who have difficulties managing the responsibilities of renting or obtaining a home. The Renting an Apartment / Living Arrangement service area provides targeted training centering of the importance of paying bills, applying for affordable housing programs, communicating with roommates or landlords, and methods of avoiding evictions or other negative interactions in the home. This service area supports individuals who may require some assistance and support in regards to the responsibilities associated with maintaining a stable home environment.
Safety training targets both hazards in the home and in the community. The individual will be prompted, educated, and trained in various ways to identify, locate, and correct the safety hazards. This includes but is not limited to educating the client on potential hazards in the home, reporting hazards to the appropriate parties, hazards associated with blocking of emergency exit paths, testing fire alarms and formulating evacuation plans. Safety instruction may also focus on dangers associated with going out late at night or interacting with strangers in the community. Training and support will target the specific needs of the consumer and his/her personal preferences.
The self-advocacy service area assists individuals in speaking for themselves by effectively and clearly conveying their interests and opinions as well as understanding their rights. Training, education, and support in this area will assist individuals in being able to better identify when their rights are being violated and identify the steps necessary in reporting an issue or concern. The self-advocacy support will help individuals in beginning the process of living independently.
The Shopping service area focuses on the essential skills in acquiring necessities such as food, personal care products, and services. Training and support encompasses prioritizing purchases, making lists of necessary items, and shopping comparatively. The Shopping service area also assists individuals in understanding shopping processes such as properly handling of items, keeping important receipts, and returning defective or unwanted products.
The Social Interaction training area focuses on assisting the individual with interpersonal skills. Some training may include but is not limited to developing conversational skills, engaging in appropriate topics of discussion, learning to be culturally sensitive, or using appropriate language and etiquette in public. Social Interaction assistance is not a behavior modification service, but aims to educate and prompt the individual to engage in more appropriate behaviors.
